PLANS have been submitted for a new pet shop to take over the former Blockbuster video store in Earley.

Just for Pets has submitted proposals to have bright yellow advertising signs on the front of the derelict shop in Chalfont Square Retail Park.

Work is already under way to revamp the store, and is expected to carry on over the summer.

Blockbuster closed in 2013 after the film and video game company went into liquidation.

Mike Kilbride, whose company MJK Design and Build has been tasked with fitting the new shop, said it could be open as soon as September.

Mr Kilbride said: “They are looking to open around September 10. We are just fitting out an empty shell where Blockbuster used to be. We are in the demolition process, work should last about seven or eight weeks.”

The pet shop chain, which runs out of a head office in Hartlebury, Worcestershire, currently has 21 stores across England.

The retail park already hosts an Iceland, a Marks and Spencer, a McDonald’s and a Domino’s.
