UNSUSPECTING residents are being warned about a group of men posing as electrical engineers trying to sell loft insulation.

Thames Valley Police got a tip off from Scottish and Southern Electric last week, who had been following a public tweet.

The tweet was about a group of men knocking on doors in Hawkedon Way, Lower Earley.

The men introduce themselves as engineers from Scottish Southern Electric, and offer to come inside the house and install loft installation.

SSE has advised the police and residents that the men do not work for the company, and the work they are offering is likely to be fake.

A spokesman for Thames Valley Police said there are no descriptions of the men, other than they were all wearing ID cards with the web address of 'Simply Be' on their cards.

She added: "We have received a call from Scottish and Southern Electric (SSE), they had been monitoring a public ‘tweet’ about a group of males going round the area of Hawkedon Way, Lower Earley, trying to sell loft insulation claiming to be from SSE.

"SSE has advised these people are not from SSE and that the work they are offering is likely to be fake. There are no other specific descriptions apart from they are all wearing ID cards with the web address of ‘Simply Be’ on their cards.

"This has all occurred on Wednesday 15th July, at 13:30.

"If anyone calls and says they are from Scottish and Southern Electric, do not engage and ring the police on 101 quote CHARM."
