RUNNERS of all abilities will beheading to Newbury this weekend for its annual 10k race.

The town mayor, Cllr Margo Payne and West Berkshire Council chairman, Cllr Carol Jackson-Doerge will wave runners off from the Market Place starting line at 10am.

Runners will weave their way through streets, woodland trails and canal towpaths before returning along Craven Road and Bartholomew Street and heading back to the Market Place where they will receive a well-deserved medal and goodies.

Junior participants can take on shorter races including 900m and 1.5km races immediately prior to the 10km.

Matt Franklin, chief executive of sponsors Roc Technologies said: "We’re all really looking forward to this big day, which is a great town event, and something in which entire families can get involved.

“We’ve taken it very seriously at Roc Technologies so various members of the team will be lacing up their trainers on the day, some of whom will be doing their first 10k race."

Entries for the Newbury 10k have now closed. For full raceday details visit www.newburyac.org.uk.
