RESIDENTS and staff at a care home is inviting you to help celebrate an icon of the Second World War.

The British Legion along with singer Sarah Saunders will be at Winchcombe Place to celebrate the 100th birthday of Vera Lynn.

The Forces Sweetheart, who sang We'll Meet Again, and The White Cliffs of Dover amongst others as she toured the world, shot to fame for entertaining soldiers during the war.

Staff at the Maple Crescent home will be dressing in war-time themed get up for the special event on Wednesday, March 15.

Stephanie Jones, home manager at Winchcombe Place, said: “We are all looking forward to taking a walk down memory lane and having a good sing-along to celebrate Vera Lynn’s milestone birthday.

"Singing can be a powerful reminiscence activity, and Vera Lynn has written a number of iconic songs that many residents are likely to have grown up listening to.

“Even when memories become particularly hard to remember, often music can still be recalled, so a group sing-along can often be very calming for those living with dementia, and can encourage them to talk about memories from their childhood."

Guests are invited to enjoy a sing along to the Dame's most famous song whilst nibbling on cake and other refreshments. The fun gets underway at 3pm.
