A REGISTERED sex offender who failed to notify police of his whereabouts was handed a prison sentence for making indecent images of children.

Michael Ross admitted to making the images at his Mill House residence in Thatcham after breaching two counts of a sexual prevention order.

The 50-year-old, who used to be known as Michael Akehurst, was handed a ten-year order in October 2009 at Croydon Crown Court after inciting a child under 13 into sexual activity.

Information was passed to officers he was accessing images of children again who then arrested him at his home on October 4 this year and charged him the following day.

Ross was supposed to notify police officers of his whereabouts if he was staying somewhere for more than seven days, but he failed to do so.

“I am pleased that Akehurst, or Ross as he now likes to be known, will no longer be able to carry out these offences,” said detective constable Sandra Tearney of the online investigation team.

“This case should serve as a warning to anyone who is engaging in this kind of criminal behaviour whether they are accessing, making or distributing indecent images of children.

“We will find you and carry out warrants in order to make arrests and bring people to justice.”

Ross received two years imprisonment at Reading Crown Court on Monday, 14 November for making indecent images of children.

He was also handed a 12-month sentence for breaching his sexual behaviour order, which he will serve concurrently.
