A MAN has been sentenced to two years and eight months' imprisonment for drugs offences in Newbury.
Corey Jones, aged 23, of St Kildas Road, Harrow, pleaded guilty and was sentenced at Reading Crown Court on Monday.
He was convicted of one count of possession with intent to supply a class A drug, namely crack cocaine and one count of possession with intent to supply a class A drug.
Last month, Jones was arrested after PC Christopher Eaton, based at Newbury police station, saw Jones behind Greenham Stores in Newbury.
Jones ran away and was chased and detained by PC Eaton.
Before being detained on October 5, he threw an object into a garden, which was later recovered and found to contain 41 wraps of crack cocaine and 61 wraps of heroin.
A further 17 wraps of crack cocaine and eight wraps of heroin were found in Jones' possession when he was in custody.
Jones was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class A drugs, and was charged the same day.
The conviction at Reading Crown Court also activated a previous 20 month suspended sentence for possession with intent to supply drugs, meaning that Jones will now serve a total of 52 months' imprisonment.
PC Eaton said: "This case involved a drug dealer from London, preying on vulnerable people in Newbury.
"He spent no longer than a day in Newbury dealing drugs before he was stopped by our officers, demonstrating that police are taking a no-nonsense approach to drug dealing at any level.
"We will continue to target these dealers, seize their assets, and prosecute them."
