500 jobs could be created at new depot

COUNCILLORS have given their backing to two new warehouses and offices which could create 500 jobs.
The planned storage and distribution hubs at Worton Grange, replacing the demolished Hewlett Packard building, make up just under 40,000 square metres of floor space.
Reading borough planners voted unanimously on Wednesday last week in favour of the plans, subject to the developer paying £100,000 towards transport in Reading to offset the extra lorries which will end up using the A33 and Basingstoke Road, and £77,300 towards training initiatives by economic development company Reading UK CIC.
Whitley ward councillor Jim Hanley said: "It's a large site that's currently derelict, it has been for some time, and people want something done with it. Something that will bring this many jobs is always welcome."
Worton Grange Industrial Ltd, said construction will create a further 200 temporary jobs.
