TEXT messaging software company Acision has had a successful year - with the help of the recession.

The firm, which was initially part of Logica in Green Park, moved to Theale Lakes just over a year ago but had its back office finance function run in Bangalore, India.

However Acision, the world leader in texting software, has now moved that function back to the UK which it says is cheaper and better.Chief financial officer Steve Harvey, pictured left, said: "We brought it back inhouse for a better price than in India. We had had issues with the quality of people and the quality of work."

Thanks to the recession, recruitment was made easy and a locally recruited finance team of around 30 is now part of the 200 strong staff at the Theale headquarters, part of 1,600 employees worldwide. The Theale offices have room to spare to accommodate huge growth potential.

More than two-thirds of the world's text messages already go over Acision software and the firm is preparing to exploit new markets as a result of new services mobile phone companies are offering.

The market is expected to grow by 47% in the next two years. One market is north America where the percentage of people with mobile phones is lower. Developments such as the iPhone have dramatically increased demands on networks and Acision is eyeing up new opportunities.

Steve said: "Operators have a big challenge. They have invested a lot of money and they now have all-in packages. They have created the demand. Now they have got to meet it."
