A CHARITY that deliver presents to those less likely to receive a visit from Father Christmas is enjoying the continued backing of a Caversham primary school.

The Toys and Teens appeal is an annual campaign run by Reading Family Aid that provides a little seasonal joy to the less financially well off across the town.

Two integral parts of their operation, which saw 1,500 young people become beneficiaries of the good will of an army of volunteers last year, is the fundraising and donations of willing Reading residents.

Back for a second year supporting Reading Family Aid and the Toys and Teens initiative is the Height Primary School.

Karen Edwards, the school's principal, said: “We supported it last year and this year the children who sit on the school council decided that along with national charities we wanted to support two closer to home. Reading Family Aid was one of the local charities they chose.

“We talk a lot about caring, sharing and compassion. The children are aware there are quite a lot of people in Reading who are not as fortunate as they are. They want to help people who don't have as much as them and the Toys and Teens appeal is a great way for them to do that.”

As well as encouraging pupils to donate presents to the campaign, in May the school took part in the Green Park Mini Mile, raising £500 for Reading Family Aid in the process.
