AN ENTREPRENEUR is hoping to bury the hatchet with residents who opposed his new Indian takeaway in Hurst by inviting them over for a free meal.

Jitsu Miah spent a year consulting neighbours and Wokingham Borough Council to solve their concerns with his new business, Hurst Tiger, based in The Street.

Residents had feared the Indian takeaway would cause unpleasant smells and not suit their taste in food, but Mr Miah is confident they will like his “home-style” cuisine, and is inviting the community to try it for free on Tuesday.

As an added twist, the newly renovated building will serve fresh sandwiches and coffee in the day, under the name of Hurst Bakery, while serving curries, rice and naan bread at night.

Mr Miah said: “I know me and the locals have had our problems in the past, but let’s just leave them in the past. I want to move on into the future together.

“After all, the restaurant is for them.

“This isn’t a matter of winning or losing, it’s about a place that is for them to enjoy.

“I have made sure that any venting goes straight up out of the building, instead of out the side like it used to be.

“We have spent a fortune to make sure we have the best equipment and create food that has real depth in flavour.

“I want neighbours to come and try it for themselves, so they know I’ve put my money where my mouth is.”

The owner has even altered the menu to cater those who do not like Indian food —promising a “proper” fish and chips.

The free taste session on Tuesday starts at 5pm.
