A MAN who was caught with drugs in west Reading last summer was jailed for more than two years at Reading Crown Court earlier today.

Charlie Hiatt, of Deeley Road, London, was stopped by officers in Oxford Road on August 10 last year, but ran away.

He was then stopped and detained in Catherine Street where he was found with 118 wraps of crack cocaine and heroin on his person.

The 28-year-old was sentenced to two years and eight months’ imprisonment for one count of possession of heroin with intent to supply and two years and eight months’ imprisonment for possession of crack cocaine with intent to supply, to run concurrently.

Investigating officer, Detective Constable Ali Bagshaw, based at Reading Police Station, said: “Charlie Hiatt lived in London at the time of the offence and was in Reading for one purpose and one purpose only; to sell heroin and crack cocaine.

“His Honour Paul Dugdale highlighted that Hiatt is not a user of the drugs he was supplying and is therefore not aware of the devastating harm that such drugs have on users and their families.

"Further, many drug users commit crimes in order to fund their habit, so there is a collateral effect

“I hope Hiatt’s conviction and sentence will send out a clear message to anyone considering dealing drugs in Reading that you will be caught, you will be prosecuted and you will spend a significant period of time in custody.”
