THE council is being asked to apologise after 20 elderly residents turned up to Brock Barracks on Remembrance Sunday as they didn’t know the service had moved.

Greg Dint, from west Reading, was driving past the former site of the town’s main ceremony when he spotted a group of men in military gear stood outside the base holding wreaths.

He said: “The old boys had polished their boots and trekked down to the barracks and were too late to get to the Forbury in time.” Mr Dint returned minutes later to find a gentlemen stood alone outside and gave him a lift to town so he could get to the town centre ceremony to pay his respects.

Mr Dint added: “I am questioning whether there was enough of an announcement, especially for some of the old boys. It was just a very sad sight to see all those guys stood there.”
