A woman who tried to stop two men fighting was knocked to the ground prompting a police investigation .

The fight outside Burger King in St Mary's Butts, Reading, continued over the road and into the church graveyard.

Another man followed the pair and in another scuffle he suffered an injury to his face. He was treated by paramedics and taken to the Royal Berkshire Hospital and later discharged.

A police cordon was placed around the church today and a solitary PCSO stood guard.

A spokesman for Thames Valley Police said the fight took place at 3.45am today.

Detective Constable Sarah Manning, from Reading police station, said: “I would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or who has any information about what happened to speak to police.”

*A 23-year-old man from Reading was arrested in connection with the incident and remains in police custody.
