Parents anxiously awaiting their children’s 11-plus grammar school test results have been sent out the wrong scores, it can be revealed.

A mail mix-up means some of the 10-year-olds who sat the grammar school test at the beginning of September to get into Kendrick School have been told they did not have a place — when in fact they may have.

The error has occurred for pupils who also wanted to be considered for also selective grammar schools in Slough. The Slough Consortium — a body overseeing admissions to Slough grammar schools — sent out letters advising parents of results. However, they have admitted that a mix-up with their mail merge database means some candidates were sent the wrong results.

Today, parents took to the internet to express their outrage.

One parent wrote on the Elevenplusexams forum: “I’ve been around for a while now and it really takes a lot to get me wound up!

“I can also tell you the score we received for my daughter does not reflect her ability or attainment levels at all. If required, we have concrete proof to back up our claims she is much more capable than the score she was given against someone else’s name yesterday.

“I’m not worried at all about Dd’s future prospects but stand with you in disbelief and anger towards the Slough authorities.”

Dak wrote: “We also got the result of some another girl to our address. I am shocked. How the exam organiser can send the result without proper checking and play with life [sic] of children.”

However, both Reading School and Kendrick said they would be sending out definitive results of their exams to candidates this week.

Reading School headteacher Ashley Robson said parents should wait until they get the results directly from them, but refused to say how many boys, if any, had received the wrong information. Results were sent out at 2.30pm yesterday afternoon in the second class post.

A spokesman for Kendrick School said they would not be making any comment about the blunder and advised parents to read the message posted on its website.

It reads: “PLEASE NOTE: Candidates who sat the test at Kendrick School and have requested that their results are shared with the Slough Consortium will receive a separate letter produced by the Slough Consortium.

“We have been advised that there has been an error with the mail merge letters produced by Slough and correct letters are being resent by first class post within the next couple of days.

“This only affected candidates who sat the test at Kendrick School and requested their scores to be shared with the Slough Consortium. “Production of the Slough Consortium results letters was a separate exercise to the Kendrick School test results process and therefore Kendrick School’s database and results are not affected.”

Another parent suggested the whole process be referred to the information commissioner’s office.

RG45 mum said: “Anyone affected should do so - you can also contact Slough Borough Council to the individual responsible for data protection.

“This is a serious error and I would encourage anyone affected to report it so this does not happen again - a similar error at GCSE would cause national concern - this has potentially affected many students and the Council must be held to account and a proper investigation held.”
