The 51-year-old victim was driving a blue Mazda 3 on the southbound carriageway of Basingstoke Road, at the junction with Surrey Road, at around 10.30am on Monday, September 15, when he became involved in a row with a woman.
A man in his late twenties then ran over to the Mazda driver and punched him before fleeing in the black Ford Focus the woman was driving.
The victim was treated for facial injuries at the Royal Berkshire Hospital, and police describe the attacker as black, around 5ft 9ins and stocky with black short hair. He was wearing a cream-coloured long sleeved top and dark trousers.
Investigating officer, PC Victoria Driver of Local CID, said: “Due to the location of this busy main road there are potentially many witnesses to this offence. I would appeal to anyone with information to contact police via 101.”
