Reading's bus passengers will face disruption for the next two weeks as Thames Water completes the final phase of its road works.

Diversions will start on Saturday with the north-south section of Blagrave Street, between Forbury Road junction and Valpy Street, closed from 4.30am until a similar time on Monday.

During these works the one-way traffic flow in Friar Street East will be reversed. This will allow temporary stops to be located there for services that normally pick up in Station Road or Blagrave Street south.

Mint Green services to Basingstoke Road and Northumberland Avenue as well as the Sky Blue 15s and 16s to Dee Park and Purley will be affect, along with the Royal Blue 33/33a to Tilehurst Road.

In addition the Leopard and Scarlet services for Shinfield Road and the 19s coming from Woodley will stop in Friar Street East rather than outside Reading station.

Reading Buses chief executive James Freeman said: “We can’t wait for the end of these disruptive works.

“Our customers and staff have been so patient with us over the past months, since April in fact, as we have had to move bus stops, divert routes and suffer extended journey times.

“These two weeks will see the worst disruption of the whole operation – we ask our customers to bear with us and to look carefully at the signs and other information.”
