Love Clean Reading will begin deep cleaning its last, and 136th, street after six months of hard work.

The Reading Borough Council initiative, which began in February, will finally conclude in Stone Street and Tidmarsh Street.

Work has included street sweeping, verge edging, gulley emptying, weeding, tree pruning and clearing vegetation with more than 154 tonnes of waste being removed.

Reading Borough Councillor Liz Terry, neighbourhoods leader, said: “Cleaning and taking care of streets and neighbourhoods will always be one of the most important things any council does.

“What is different about Love Clean Reading is that we have been able to organise teams differently so they carry out a range of jobs on roads all at the same time.

“That means residents have been able to see a real difference in the appearance of their roads after teams have visited.

“We now want to take the Love Clean Reading initiative forward and develop it further so many more Reading streets and neighbourhoods can benefit from it.”
