A FORGOTTEN corner of The Oracle is to be revitalised by an Argentinian steakhouse and water mill-themed artwork.

The shopping centre was given the green light to build a two-storey extension on the land adjacent to the Holy Brook by Minster Court at a meeting of the borough council’s planning applications committee on Wednesday last week.

Cau, an Argentinian steakhouse with outlets across the south east, will be opening its latest branch offering Reading customers tantalising steaks, burgers and sandwiches.

A large artwork dedicated to the water mills which used to line the Holy Brook and two new trees will be planted once two cherry trees, a reed sculpture and a wall have been removed.

Committee member Cllr Tony Page welcomed the proposal and the new restaurant, which is part of the Gaucho Group. He said the closing of the outdoor dining area by 9.30pm should address any concerns from neighbours.

He added: “I am particularly attracted by the proposal for attractive artwork that reflects the signifi. cant history of the water mills that line the Holy Brook.

“I think the combination of that artwork plus the new restaurant will revitalise what has become a bit of a forgotten corner.”

The restaurant is expected to be open by Christmas.
