THE sun has kept his hat on as a second week of record-breaking highs have hit Reading with yesterday seeing the year’s hottest day as the thermometer soared to 28.6 degrees Celsius.

Dr Roger Brugge, from Reading University’s meteorology department, said: “Thursday was the eighth consecutive day to reach 25 ⁰degrees Celsius in the town.

“So far this month the temperature has averaged one degree above average and the weather seems set to remain slightly warmer than average for the remainder of July. Temperatures will drop a little from the level of the recent highs over the weekend, which may also seem some thundery rain from Friday afternoon onwards.

“July is the eighth consecutive warmer-than-average month in the town according to temperature observations made every day at the University’s weather station, although July 2013 was a slightly warmer month than the current July.”

Despite some thundery showers this afternoon and lightning strikes causing temporary delays on train routes between Reading and Slough, the weekend’s weather promises to remain hot with high temperatures again predicted to Saturday.
