Ofsted inspectors rated Streatley C of E Primary School, in The Coombe, as 'good’ in all four areas – achievement of pupils, quality of teaching, behaviour and safety of pupils and leadership and management.
Lead inspector John Carnaghan described the level of teaching as “good because it is well organised and purposeful”.
He said: “Children make good progress from the moment they start school.” Headteacher Chris Prickett was also praised for working closely with his staff and governors.
He said: “I am delighted that we have maintained 'good’ status and with all the positive comments about the great learning environment our school provides.”
To improve further, staff need to provide more advice when marking work and cut the amount of “chatter” in the classroom.
Teachers also need to find an easier way for pupils in the Early Years Foundation Stage to get outside, but Mr Prickett added: “Improved access to the outdoor area is something we had already identified as the next step on from our successful relocation of the Foundation Stage classroom and we are currently assessing quotes for the addition of a door.”
The school was last inspected in 2009, when it was also ranked as 'good.’
West Berkshire’s education leader, Cllr Irene Neill, said: “This is a great result with work already under way to help achieve an outstanding grade following the next inspection.”
