RUSH hour motorists are warned of long delays in the morning after Sonning Bridge was closed again this evening because of flooding.

The B478 from Playhatch Road to Sonning Bridge has been closed in both directions between the Henley Road junction and High Street in the village with the Thames over its banks and still rising.

Drivers seeking alternative routes are expected to face jams at the Caversham Bridge and Reading Bridge crossings over the Thames in Reading and heavy congestion both in and out of town at Cemetery Junction in Newtown.

Police and motoring organisations are advising motorists planning to use those routes to leave extra time for their Monday morning journeys.

New flood warnings were issued this afternoon for the River Kennet between Theale and Reading, with waterside properties at risk, with a similar alert for the River Loddon through Twyford, Charvil and Wargrave.

Existing warnings have been reinforced on the Thames at Shiplake, Lower Shiplake, Wargrave and Purley, where water levels have been rising throughout the day in River Gardens and Wintringham Way.
