A READING discount store beat the windy Autumn weather by hosting a family fun day on Saturday.

Family Bargains at the Brunel Retail Park in Rose Kiln Lane gave customers the chance to win store vouchers and get involved with a host of activities including balloon modelling and quizzes.

Ian Gee from CITV’s 'Dream Team Live’ presented prizes and greeted shoppers as they entered the store which occupies the building used by sports retailer JJB until two years ago.

Robin Holland, who has been the store’s manager for three months, said: “It’s been really good day! We want to let people see we’re here - some people still think we are JJB.”

The store sells many well-known brand named foods and products at discounted prices to help families through the tough economic climate.

Mr Holland said: “We are here to do business and show that you don’t have to go to supermarkets to buy great brand names.”

There is another fun day planned next month to help celebrate Christmas when more prizes and offers will be available.

*Family Bargains is a collection point for the Chronicle’s Toys and Teens Appeal. Anyone who would like to donate toys or gifts for teenagers this Christmas can take them to the store to be passed on to Reading Family Aid.
