CALCOT has seen a drop in domestic burglary and vehicle crime over the last year.

More than 50 residents met local police officers and Reading West MP Alok Sharma on Thursday, June 20, at Kennet Valley Free Church in Carters Rise to discuss the area's crime figures.

Home break-ins have dropped from 115 in 2011/12 to 44 in 2012/13, and vehicle crime has followed suit from 141 last year to 100 this year.

Neighbours raised issues on the need for security lights on garages, anti-social driving issues, what they can do to help the police, enforcement of bus lanes, speeding and anti-social behaviour.

Mr Sharma said: "This meeting was another excellent opportunity to hear residents' concerns about local policing issues and to enhance the dialogue between the police and the wider community and I will be following up on a number of the issues raised with local residents."

Superintendent Robin Rickard added: "This valuable meeting complements the wide range of public consultation activities that the police in West Berkshire are committed to."
