ARTISTS from across the borough are being invited to show off their work at the only festival exclusively for Reading talent.

Reading Arts Week exhibition kicks off next month and promises a feast of creativity with all amateur and professional artists guaranteed the opportunity to showcase their work at the grand finale at Reading College over the weekend of June 22 and 23.

All artists over the age of 16 living in the greater Reading area can submit two pieces of work ranging from traditional art forms such as painting, sculpture, textiles and ceramics to digital art, photography and videos.

Lyndsey Clark, an Emmer Green fashion designer took part in last year's event and found it a great chance to get noticed and gain valuable experience meeting customers and selling her work.

The 24-year-old Reading College graduate, who designs corsets and wedding dresses, said: "It was absolutely fantastic, last year was a real turning point. I have definitely increased my workload."

Lyndsey is teaming up with fellow designers Simone Watson and Louise Butland to seek submissions for the Reading Arts Week Fashion Show.

It all kicks off with the Art Village at Reading Water Fest in Forbury Gardens from 11am-5pm on Saturday, June 15, and continues with exhibitions, displays, concerts and drama.

The week, sponsored by the Chronicle, is a partnership between Reading Borough Council and Reading College, working in collaboration with Reading University, Strength in Numbers Arts Festival, Whiteknight Studio Trail, Reading Your Way and the Rising Sun Art Centre.

Organiser Chris Brant said: "The whole point of Reading Arts Week is it is the only dedicated festival exclusively for the town's artists. It is a great way to get your work exhibited in front of a lot of local people."

Each entrant must submit their work with a supporting fee of 18 by Sunday, June 2, although students studying in Reading can exhibit for free.
