Fireworks are back with a bang

BIG time sparkle returns to Reading with a bang next month with the town's first major charity firework spectacular for more than a decade.
The town had a traditional firework display for many years until it was snuffed out by a lack of sponsorship but organisers of next month's event are drawing on the enthusiasm of Reading's youngsters to help make it a success.
On Saturday, November 3, the Lions Club of Reading are linking up with radio station Reading107fm for an evening of fireworks, music, food and refeshments at the home of Reading Town Football Club in Tilehurst's Scours Lane.
There will be a funfair for the children when the gates open at 5pm and the perfect vantage point with a seat in the stands or a place on the terraces to watch the fireworks when they begin at 7pm.
Ticket numbers are limited but can be bought in advance at www.reading107.com and from other outlets across the town, with discount available for a limited period.
David Lawton, Reading Lions president, said: "Not only will The Lions Club provide a fireworks party to remember, we will be raising much needed funds for local charitable causes. With your support, we will organise the same event next year and in preparation, local primary schools are taking part in a drawing competition to create a poster to advertise the Fireworks Extravaganza 2013."
All winning entries will be on display on the night and Mayor of Reading Cllr Jenny Rynn will present the gift voucher prizes. The winner will get a voucher worth £35 and their school £150. Second prize is £25 and £100 and third £15 and £50. Every youngster taking part will get a free ticket to see the fireworks.
Reading 107FM will be providing regular updates before November 3, and entertainment on the night and boss Tony Grundy, said: "As the radio station approaches celebrations for its 10th anniversary, it seems appropriate that the team will be there to create a real party atmosphere for the whole family to enjoy."
