A SPECIAL meeting to decide the fate of plans for a multi million pound IKEA superstore in Calcot takes place next week in Theale.

A decision on the controversial proposal to replace derelict buildings at Pincents Lane Retail Park with the 10m development will be made by West Berkshire Council at Theale Green Community School, from 6.30pm on Wednesday next week.

Planning bosses have switched the venue for the monthly Eastern Area Planning Committee meeting - which is usually held at the Calcot Centre in Highview - because a large turnout is expected.

Residents can also get a preview of the finalised plans and speak to the developers at a meeting on Monday from 7-9pm at the Beansheaf Centre in Charrington Road, Calcot. The meeting has been organised by Reading West MP Alok Sharma and Holybrook Parish Council chairwoman Mary Bedwell.

The plans, submitted in February last year, won the support of Reading Borough Council in June but West Berkshire has the final say next week.
