POLICE have arrested a teenager after a 14-year-old girl reported that she had been raped in Reading town centre only yards from busy shopping streets.

The incident happened in Garrard Street at about 4.30pm on Tuesday and an 18-year-old Reading man was arrested and released on bail to report back to Loddon Valley police station on Wednesday, April 21.

Detective Sergeant Elton Evans said: "Although we have made an arrest we still need to speak to any witnesses and I am keen to hear from anyone who was in the area of the Garrard Street car park and recalls seeing anything suspicious."
