Senior Labour MP: Reading still a

SENIOR Labour MP Caroline Flint stresses Reading is still a "great place to live" - despite the town narrowly missing out on city status.

The shadow secretary of state for energy and climate change was sympathetic when she visited Reading yesterday to push for measures to prevent energy companies exploiting pensioners.

The Don Valley MP's own constituency covers parts of Doncaster - another leading favourite in the race for the coveted status which was awarded to Chelmsford in Essex, Perth in Scotland and St Asaph in Wales.

Ms Flint who has fond memories of visiting Reading as a child said: "Sadly only a certain amount of places can get picked.

"A lot of effort goes into the campaigns and one of the good things is that it makes people think about the place they live in and what makes them proud of it. I hope people in Reading do not get too down at heart but take some pride in the debates that have gone on over the last few months about what makes it a great place to live."

  again a waste of tax payers hard earn money when are the powers to be realize this always been a town and we like it this way
