FIREFIGHTERS were called to a kitchen fire in Pangbourne today when a dishwasher caught alight.

The flames spread to the kitchen cupboard and the middle-aged homeowner in Bourne Road alerted Dee Road fire crew at 3.50pm.

They spent around 30 minutes at the scene and crew manager John Rumble said: "It was only a small fire and the woman who lived there had done all the right things. She closed the door when she noticed the fire and called us.

"There was only a bit of damage to the dishwasher and the kitchen cupboard."
