A YOUNG boy who was knocked down by a car yesterday has died in hospital.

The 12-year-old was in collision with a white Audi A1 as he crossed King's Road, Reading, outside the Abbot Cook pub at around 4.20pm.

He was taken to the Royal Berkshire Hospital with head injuries and was later transferred to a specialist brain injury unit at Oxford's John Radcliffe Hospital and put on a life-support machine, but he died at 2.40pm today.

Police say a 24-year-old man from Earley was arrested at the scene on suspicion of dangerous driving and released on bail after questioning. He must report back to Loddon Valley police station on Thursday, April 26.

Witnesses should call 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
