Man left with fractured cheekbone after gang attack
A MAN who tried to stop yobs hurling abuse at a woman in the street was left with a fractured cheekbone when the gang turned on him.
The 24-year-old victim was skateboarding along Elgar Road South towards the junction with Basingstoke Road just after 11.30pm on Friday when he encountered the gang of five teenage boys walking in front of him.
One of them stopped to urinate on a car and the rest began shouting at a woman walking towards them on the other side of the road.
The victim attempted to intervene but was violently pushed to the ground and repeatedly punched and kicked in the head. The attack only halted when another passer-by shouted out that he was calling the police.
The man was taken to Royal Berkshire Hospital but later transferred to Oxford's John Radcliffe Hospital for specialist treatment.
PC Lucy Green said: "We would appeal for anyone who was in the area and would particularly like to speak the woman who was walking by just before the boys attacked the victim."
The five thugs are white and all around 16, slim and wore hoodies and jogging bottoms.
