A YOUNG family narrowly avoided disaster when a faulty cooker burst into flames.

The couple in their 30s were using the appliance shortly after 7pm yesterday (Friday) in their home in Harriet Close, Woodley, when one of the hobs flared violently.

They disconnected the appliance before crews from Wokingham Road and Whitley Wood fire stations came to check it and recommend they replace the hob.
