Brave cyclist fights off masked knifeman
A PLUCKY cyclist bravely evaded a masked knifeman who ambushed him in an alleyway.
The 22-year-old rider was cycling along a pathway on Old Bath Road, Newbury, close to a block of flats at the Western Avenue and Speen Hill Close junction at 11.35pm on Wednesday when a balaclava-clad man approached - pulling out a knife and demanding his property.
But the quick-thinking cyclist pushed him out of the way before pedalling off in the direction of the Shell Garage in Bath Road.
His attacker is white, around 5ft 10ins tall, of skinny, but solid build, had a long and thin face and spoke with a deep voice - possibly disguising a Northern accent.
He wore a tightly fitting dark grey hoodie, dark jeans and is thought to be left-handed.
Witnesses should contact police on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
