Chimney fire sparks safety warning

FIREFIGHTERS are warning people to get have their chimneys swept regularly after a weekend blaze in Emmer Green.

A crew from Caversham Road called to a terraced house in Chaucer Close shortly after 7.30pm yesterday (Sunday) used a specialist kit to cool down the chimney shaft and prevented any structural damage . Station watch manager James Dowd said: "We recommend people sweep their chimneys regularly to stop a build up of carbon."
