Man 'serious' in hospital after mystery attack
A 39-YEAR-OLD Shinfield man is seriously ill with head injuries after he was attacked in Reading town centre.
The victim was found in St Mary's Butts at 4.30pm on Tuesday and taken to Oxford's John Radcliffe Hospital where his condition is now serious but stable.
Detectives questioned two Reading men aged 20 and 21, and a 17-year-old Charvil youth, on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm before freeing them on bail to report back to Loddon Valley police station next Thursday.
Det Sgt Elton Evans said: "At this stage we do not know exactly what happened to this man.
"It appears he may have been involved in some form of altercation that developed into a serious assault. His injuries were at first not considered to be too serious, but he deteriorated and is now in a serious condition.
"We still need to trace other people who may have witnessed this incident. We believe it took place near a bus stop, so it's likely there would have been a number of people in the area at the time."
