A NURSE had to be rescued from a broken down lift at the Royal Berkshire Hospital maternity unit early today.

The distressed staff member was stranded in the lift for nearly an hour when it jammed between floors at 1.30am. Fire fighters from Reading's Wokingham Road station were able to winch the lift up to the next level and release her unharmed.
