A SMALL dog had to be rescued from a freezing lake in Woodley today.

Fire fighters from Wokingham Road and the water rescue unit from Caversham Road fire station were called to Woodford Park by the dog's owner at 2.30pm, when the brown terrier ran onto the lake and the ice gave way - causing the puppy to plunge into the icy water.

The crews were at the scene for 45 minutes and the dog was taken to the vets.
