FREEZING temperatures caused a water pipe to burst in Whitley today and flood two flats.

Firefighters from Whitley Wood station were called to Windmere Road after residents in the ground floor flat noticed water pouring from the ceiling.

Their neighbours in the first floor flat were not at home and so the crew had to wait for police officers to arrived and force their way in.

Once inside, firefighters discovered the flat had flooded because of a burst pipe in the loft and isolated the water supply and electrics.

The flood caused severe damage to the first floor flat and partial damage to the ground floor property.
