'Be prepared for severe weather' - Met Office
THE Met Office has issued an amber warning for Berkshire - with severe weather forecast for later today.
The "be prepared" alert comes as the county braces itself for up to four inches of snow this evening and overnight.
The harsh weather is expected to cause treacherous driving conditions and the Highways Agency is urging motorists to "be wise" on the roads.
Firefighters from Dee Road and Caversham Road stations had to cut a woman from her Honda Civic when it skidded off an icy Magpie Way, Tilehurst, and down the embankment to Starlings Drive, at 6.30am today. The driver was taken to hospital with spinal injuries.
Reading Borough Council says it has 738 tonnes of salt stocks and has been gritting roads and pavements across the town.
It also has its footway snow ploughs on standby to clear the main pedestrian links need clearing.
Earlier today, Reading Football Club's Championship match at Doncaster Rovers was called off due to a frozen pitch.
