AN EARLEY construction company is offering a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to cash strapped organisations in the town.
Mark Fowles, who runs FD Construction Solutions Ltd from Reading University in Earley Gate, is inviting local community groups, charities and organisations in need of a revamp to bid for the contract, worth up to £1,000.
He said: "It is something we have wanted to do for a long time and we are looking for local, Earley based organisations that have little funding, to bid for the cash.
"A local Scout group that needs a roof fixed or something like that is the type of project that we are keen to support."
The company, set up by Mark 14 years ago, has 22 members of staff who work on construction projects across Berkshire.
Mark, 44, who lives in Ramsbury Drive in Earley with wife Sam and their four children, Lauren 18, Jessica 17, Daisy 15, and seven-year-old Max, added: "I was asked to talk to students at Brookfields Special School as part of a careers day and I enjoyed the interaction and got talking to one of the teachers, Colin Elstrich.
"He told me about a scheme they were keen to get off the ground which was eco-friendly and educational and the idea was to purchase some fertilised chicken eggs, incubate them, watch them grow into adult chickens, then harvest their eggs.
"We helped them find a site for the chicken coop and to try to ease the cost burden, I asked a group of our employees if they would be interested in volunteering their spare time to help out.
"I was quite stunned when nine of our guys said they would be happy to help out at no cost and our involvement with this project has been one of the most rewarding things I have done.
"It was a great opportunity for the guys to bond and it is an experience we are keen to repeat with another project this year and every year we are able."
All bids will be submitted to The Chronicle before the company chooses which project to support and work is expected to take place over the summer.
