Crackdown on Tilehurst car crime
POLICE are urging people in Tilehurst to be on their guard after a spate of car thefts.
Nine cars were broken into overnight on Thursday, January 12, when thieves made off with sat navs, a mobile phone, an iPod, cash, cigarettes and hubcaps after targeting vehicles in Carron Close, The Meadway, Cotswold Way, Upton Road, Thurso Close and Warbreck Drive.
Detective Sergeant Mark Heybourne said: "These offences are occurring overnight and vehicles are being searched for items such as mobile phones, sat navs and tools.
"I am keen to speak to anyone with information who may know who is responsible for these crimes and also where these stolen goods are being taken."
Police have also released the following tips in a bid to clamp down on burglars:
- Do not leave valuable items on display in your vehicle
- Ensure all leads for sat navs, iPods and mp3 players are removed from your vehicle
- Leave the glove box open when you leave your car to show there is nothing in it
- Clean sucker marks off glass from sat navs
- Do not leave any tools or expensive equipment in your van
- Report any suspicious or unusual behaviour by dialling the non-emergency number 101, or 999 if a crime is in progress.
