POLICE are hunting thieves who stole 130 paving slabs from a cottage garden.

They staged their raid in High Street, Twyford, overnight on Friday, after getting through an unlocked gate to reach the cottage, which is being converted into a nursing home.

PC James Beard said: "The slabs may have been taken by someone in the construction trade to use them in either a restoration project or for an authentic look, because they would not be re-sellable as new or in an open market.

"The land owner and developer is a very small and fairly local developer so this has obviously impacted on him and his business severely."

Witnesses should contact police on the new inquiry centre number 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
