A DRIVER died after being run over by his own lorry in Reading.

The 69-year-old man was out of his cab, coupling it to a trailer when the tragedy happened in the service road behind Apex Plaza near Reading Station at 11.55pm yesterday.

Sgt Jim Upton said officers are still trying to piece together what happened, but added: "We believe that the lorry rolled forward while the driver was coupling the trailer to the tractor unit and that he was struck by his lorry as he attempted to get back into the cab."

The driver, from Redhill, Surrey, was taken to the Royal Berkshire Hospital where he died early this morning.

Anyone with information should call the police on the non-emergency number 101.
