Pensioners escape sheltered housing blaze
TERRIFIED pensioners were led to safety when fire broke out at a block of retirement flats today (Wednesday).
The 15 elderly residents escaped unhurt from Trinity Place off Oxford Road, west Reading, when the blaze took hold in a ground floor toilet cubicle of the four-storey block shortly after 12.30pm.
Fire crews from Dee Road, Wokingham Road and the Wokingham station arrived within minutes to tackle the flames and had to escort four people from their rooms while the rest were helped clear by Trinity Place staff. Police sealed off the cul de sac for an hour.

Report commentPensioners should be housed in bungalows not tower blocks. How are the old biddies meant to escape a fire, especially on higher floors, if the lifts are out of order?
