FLAMES tore through a contractor's compound in Shinfield after arsonists struck last night.

Fire crews from Whitley Wood, Wokingham Road and Mortimer were called to the temporary offices and storage area in Mereoak Lane, near junction 11 of the M4, at 8.58pm and spent two hours at the scene.

Crew manager Lee Glover, from Whitley Wood fire station, said: "It was arson and it caused extensive damage to about 30% of the compound and the rest of the compound was damaged by heat and smoke."

Anyone with information should contact the police on the non-emergency number, 101, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
