Tories elect new leader
TORY councillors on Reading Borough Council have elected Tim Harris as their new group leader.
The Church ward councillor was voted in unopposed last night after being proposed by Cllr Richard Willis and seconded by Cllr Jeanette Skeats.
Cllr Skeats, a former Reading mayor, was re-elected deputy group leader, Cllr David Stevens was re-elected group chairman and Cllr Willis was elected group whip.
Cllr Harris, who works for Oracle Corporation and was first elected onto the council in 2007, takes over from Cllr Andrew Cumpsty, who unexpectedly announced he was stepping down in October.
Cllr Cumpsty cited work pressures but insiders blamed bitter infighting among the Reading East branch of the party.
