Blaze tears through family bedroom
A FAMILY are picking through the remains of a blackened and charred bedroom tonight (Sunday) after a fire tore through their east Reading home.
The blaze began shortly after 2.15pm in Denmark Road in a first floor bedroom while the couple and their young daughter were out.
Crews from Caversham Road and Wokingham Road arrived within minutes and contained the flames to the room - but the thick smoke caused severe damage to the first floor and a second floor loft conversion.
Wokingham Road crew manager Charlie Bell put the cause of the fire down to a bedroom lamp and said: "Luckily the bedroom door was closed before the fire started which prevented it from spreading to the rest of the house."
