Driver cut from van after head on collision

A VAN driver had to be cut from his vehicle after a head on collision on a country road today (Saturday).

The man, believed to be in his 30s, was travelling along Playhatch Road, Sonning Eye, when his Ford van was in collision with a Citroën Belingro van shortly after 7.45am.

Crews from Caversham Road fire station used an electric saw and hydraulic cutting equipment to free him before paramedics took him to the Royal Berkshire Hospital where he is being treaetd for head, neck and shoulder injuries.

The Belingro driver, who crawled from the wreckage unaided, was also taken to hospital with head injuries.

Both vehicles were badly damaged and the police closed the road for two hours before the wreckage was cleared.
