A chance to change a child's life

"CAN you share your life with a child?", that is the question being asked by Reading Borough Council's adoption team.
There are 4,000 children awaiting adoption in the UK and as part of National Adoption Week, which begins on Monday [31], a series of events and activities will be held to encourage people to put themselves forward to become adoptive parents.
The week is co-ordinated by the British Association for Adoption and Fostering which provides advice and campaigns to get better results for children in care.
The council's Family Placements Team will have an information stand upstairs in The Oracle on Wednesday from 9am-8pm and on Thursday an information evening is being hosted for prospective adopters at The Avenue Centre, in Conwy Close, Tilehurst from 7.30pm. The adoption process team, support services and information on other families' experiences will all be on hand.
Borough children's services leader, Cllr John Ennis, said: "If there are any prospective adopters considering coming forward I'd ask them to try and find the time to come to one of the events organised and find out more."
The team will welcome families from outside the Reading area and are particularly keen to hear from people who could offer a permanent loving home to babies and children from a range of backgrounds and with specific and non-specific conditions.

Report commentA far better question for RBC to ask would be what kind of future can these children look forward to? Rising unemployment, overflowing Butlins camps (my mistake; jails), drug addicts/drunks whichever way you turn (at least in Reading town centre) and a local council with members seemingly consisting of rejects from the Carter's Circus clown tent. I'm not sure who I pity more; the adopted parents who'll have to explain all this cobblers to the kids or the kids themselves who'll have to adapt to the new world disorder...
