WOKINGHAM Borough Council gave unanimous backing to Tesco's plans to build a giant distribution centre in Whitley last night paving the way for 1,000 new jobs.
Reading Borough Council approved the plans last week for the site which sits off the A33 at Worton Grange and is the former home of Berkshire Brewery.
The retail giant hopes the centre will be operational by Christmas next year and Tesco's James Wiggam, addressing the planning committee, said: "These plans will bring the site back to life and bring jobs back to the area."
Once operational, the centre will include jobs for maintenance, driving and managerial staff.

Report commentGood - although it's madness that Wokingham Council where involved at all. I know it's due to the strange Reading/Wokingham Boundary.
